Us, The EU and God

I have had a couple of days to think about the European Union (EU) and our leave and stay sides of the argument. Since the vote on 23rd June 2016, we have found we are now leaving the EU, this is not something which will happen over night, it could take up to 3 or 4 years. However, Brussles are asking for this to be sorted sooner than later. This is understandable as this not only effects us as Brits, but the whole of Europe too. With the resignation of our Prime Minister and Scotland voting to stay and England voting to leave, we have a lot of uncertainty to what the future holds for us, as a United Kingdom or as it seems to appear a Kingdom divided.

Do I think we need to have a strong leader as Prime Minister to lead us into the future as we leave the EU?

Yes, I think we need someone who knows how to manage our country and help build us up. Not someone who try’s to look good for the cameras. This I feel, will mean we will need to vote for a new Prime Minister and that within itself will take time, especially as the Conservatives need to vote on their new leader and we are still to see if Labours vote of no confidence will come to fruition for their leader, which if it does, they too will need to vote for their new leader before a general election for Prime Minister could take place, and each party including other parties like the BMP etc will also have to have very clear lines of action as to what they will do with us leaving Europe and where we are heading and how to build us back up.

There is, I found a petition which has been signed by over 1 million UK residents, and gaining momentum for a second vote to leave or stay in the UK, this can be found at: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215.
(Screen capture of BBC website 25th June 2016).

I personally feel due to certain elements coming to light over the last couple of days, that this vote is very much welcome. I say this because of several reasons. There were a 51.9% leave to a 48.1% Stay, the swaying vote seems to be a majority of elderly people wanting the good old days back (nostalgia), and from what I have seen this seems to be fuelled by hatred towards foreigners like in WWII. This hasn’t help with parties such as BMP (Extreme Right Wing), However a majority of younger adults 18 to 40 wanted to stay in the EU as they think it would be better for their future and the future of their children.

There is also in my opinion, The vote to leave side of the Brexit, have not so much lied but misguided and purposely worded things to make us think certain things. For example, from the interviews I’ve been watching, one inperticular on the BBC website, and the vote to leave side stated that (in there leaflets) “The EU costs us £350 million a week… Let’s take back control and spend our money on our priorities like the NHS”, “OUR  and LIKE the NHS”, all the advertisement I’ve seen has suggested and implied that that £350 million would be spent on the NHS. This is not the case, in fact from the interviews I’ve seen it is likely to be £150 million. Okay that is still a lot of money, however, when the vote to leave side were asked why is it now £150 million instead of the £350 million, very poor excuses came about. I also predict from what I have seen from previous budgets by the various governments we have had, this will in fact be a lot lower.
Another topic they mentioned is our boarders, and the implication the vote to leave seemed to indicate that all immigrants wouldn’t be allowed in. Again the facts in this case is, our government makes the decision to whether we allow or not, immigrants into our country, so being part of the EU makes no difference to that decision. The EU made it easier to travel through Europe but that didn’t affect our boarders.
The British Pound Sterling is at an all time low, the lowest it’s been I think since early 1980’s and before that WWII.

I read previously on Facebook, a comment on a friends post about us leaving the EU, and how we Brits should hold on to our British Stiff Upper Lip (this gentleman was not British and as far as I know didn’t live in the UK). As an Yorkshireman, an Englishman and a Brit, someone interested in history, the sciences and as a Christian, I have felt for at least 10 years or so now, mostly due to various aspects of British society I have seen and experienced, which can be seen in the papers, news or television (ie: football hooligan riots for the sake of rioting, programs like big brother, making people famous for either having no personality, being stupid, doing stupid things, big breasts etc) that Britain hasn’t had the British Stiff Upper Lip since WWII and Churchill and now we are more like British Limp D*ck.

So, with so much in the air, so much uncertainty and anxiety for what the future holds, where do we turn and whom do we turn too?

I personally believe, there is a bigger purpose for us in this world, that no matter how bad or good things get, the one person we can turn to and know we can always receive help, is God.

Hebrews ch13:v5, Dueteronomy ch31:v6 and Joshua Ch1:v5 says “I will NEVER leave you, nor Forsake you”.

And Pslam Ch23:v4 says “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, your rob and your staff they comfort me”

Proverbs Ch3:v5, Philippians Ch4: v6-7, and 1 Peter Ch5:v7 says “I have no fear or anxiety; I trust in the Lord with all my heart”

Isaiah Ch40:v31 says “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

These promises God has given to always be with you, and for you to choose NOT to FEAR, and to trust in the Lord, if you do these things, it will not matter if we are part of Europe or not. God is always in control and He always has His children’s backs. Like a Good parent does.

Silver Haired Warriors

I’ve been listing to various Christian Artists over the last few weeks; and this song by ‘Toby Mac’ called ‘Till The Day I Die’ (https://youtu.be/LWLZ_MrPplk), and it made me think about something I realised when I was younger.
Even though we as adults retire from jobs, we never retire from doing God’s work. Most of the elderly men and women at the church I attend, are more active doing God’s work than a lot of the younger adults.

They truly inspire me personally and being able to listen to them when they speak upon various topics in life is truly amazing, especially when you see a frail looking 80+ year old speaking on a topic with the passion of a horny teenager.

Seeing them jumping from side to side, speaking with hand gestures as they talk. The passion for God in these amazingly wise and experienced people, puts I feel a lot of the younger generations to shame. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the younger generations are less passionate or not as involved as these silver haired warriors of Christ. I’m not saying that at all. What I’m saying is these elderly lovelies are fully open to God and are always willing to do God’s work and show His unconditional love till the day God calls them home.

And this I feel comes from their years of experience of following Jesus’, understanding through the Holy Spirit, the Word of God and applying it to their lives. There is so much we can learn from previous generations. So why not spend time in their company and learn something new today.
